Learn about outdoor & adventure-based heroin addiction treatment & rehab
Heroin is a powerful and dangerous opioid. It acts as a central nervous system depressant, and causes feelings of euphoria and serenity; however, it also slows heart rate, breathing, and other essential functions. Heroin is a highly addictive drug, and the effects of heroin abuse can be devastating. At Four Circles Recovery Center, we know that overcoming heroin addiction is not easy. But with our help, many young men and women overcome their dependence on heroin and achieve long-term recovery.
Four Circle Recovery Center is a leading adventure-based treatment center specifically designed for men and women, ages 18 to 28, who are struggling with an addiction to heroin. We offer an innovative approach to rehab that integrates an outdoors experience with professional clinical care and therapeutic treatment. Our approach to treatment creates the foundation for sustained recovery and life-changing experiences for young adults facing the challenges of substance abuse, addiction, and co-occurring emotional or behavioral issues.
Helping a loved one get heroin addiction treatment
If you have learned that someone you care about has a heroin abuse problem you are most likely, and very understandably, upset.
- Learn what heroin is and take the time to understand the effects of this drug. Additionally, while you are learning as much as you can about heroin, it may also be very beneficial to research local rehab or treatment centers that can help your loved one.
- Propose to your loved one that they seek treatment immediately. Share with them the treatment options you have found, and together you can determine which program is most appropriate. If you are met with resistance, be persistent and continue to encourage your loved one to seek treatment.
- Be supportive throughout the entire rehab process. Ensure your loved one that you are there if they need anything.
Why consider heroin addiction rehab at Four Circles Recovery Center
As an individual continues to abuse heroin, the effects of this drug begin to impair the brain’s ability to regulate bodily functions, and the individual’s body will become dependent upon the drug. An addiction to heroin can lead to relationship conflicts, job loss, financial difficulties, and legal problems. There are also a vast number of physical complications that can result from continued heroin abuse, such as respiratory depression, diseases from sharing needles, and heart and/or lung failure. These are only a few of the many reasons why heroin abuse and addiction is so dangerous. The longer that an individual goes without treatment, the greater their chances are for developing many of these very serious negative ramifications.
Types of heroin addiction treatment offered at our outdoor addiction treatment center
When looking for heroin addiction treatment, you or your loved one may have been searching broadly for “rehab centers near me.” In North Carolina, there is one clear choice. At our adventure-based treatment center, the rehab model is designed to engage clients by immersing them in the natural world where they are inspired to cultivate self-reliance by being faced with uncompromising accountability. This model allows clients to reap the benefits of a therapeutic outdoor program while offering the opportunity to practice skills learned in real world settings. All treatment provided at Four Circles is gender-specific, with separate programs designed to meet the specific needs of both male and female clients.
The young men and women at our center are encouraged to attend offsite adventure-based expeditions, which are led by clinical treatment team members. These outdoor experiences complement the work we do at our lodges, and include several hours of behavioral health therapy, group counseling, and outdoor guidance to ensure lasting recovery from heroin addiction. Upon returning from their adventure-based experiences, clients integrate back into the community through meetings, service projects, and therapeutic groups before heading back into the outdoors for another therapeutic adventure.
Rehab at Four Circles consists of four levels, each of which has a number of specific guidelines and assignments for clients to complete in order to move through the level system. We use a variety of clinical and holistic approaches that allows us to meet each client’s physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs, while also helping them to establish a strong foundation for sustained recovery. The following are among the many treatment methods employed at Four Circles in the treatment of heroin abuse and addiction:
Medication management: It is very common for individuals with a heroin addiction to also be struggling with a mental health disorder. Many times, these co-occurring disorders will require the use of medication to help alleviate distressing symptoms. However, all medication needs for co-occurring mental health concerns are always decided on a case-by-case basis. For any client who requires medication management during rehab, our treatment center has a contracted psychiatrist and nurse practitioner, both of whom are available within 24 hours. Should a need arise, clients can be pulled from the field for an office visit.
Individual therapy: All clients at our treatment center participate in individual therapy sessions on a weekly basis. Individual sessions allow clients personal time with a therapist where they will be able to set achievable goals for their recovery, address specific concerns, and work through any distressing emotions surrounding their heroin abuse.
Group therapy: During rehab, we offer a number of group therapy sessions, including our nightly process groups with a paraprofessional staff member, and weekly process groups, which are conducted by a fully licensed therapist. Clients are also required to participate in a two-hour experiential challenge group on a weekly basis.
Family therapy: We firmly believe that family participation is an integral part of the treatment experience for those who are recovering from an addiction to heroin. Families who have loved ones at our treatment center will receive ongoing coaching and therapeutic contact through weekly phone sessions with a primary therapist. Additionally, we hold a two-day on-site workshop for all family members to help them with the healing process.
Adventure trips: In order to help clients foster a spiritual connection to their recovery journey, Four Circles provides regularly scheduled adventure-based counseling activities, which may include:
- Whitewater rafting
- Mountain biking
- Rock climbing
Additional therapeutic activities: In addition to participating in the therapeutic methods listed above, all clients also have the opportunity to utilize a variety of additional therapies, which are designed to help enhance the recovery process. These therapies may include:
- Nutritional education
- Martial arts
- 12-Step (AA and NA) meetings
- Yoga therapy
- Psychoeducational skills training
- Motivational interviewing
- Life skills training
- Career/vocational/psychological testing
- Solution-focused therapy
Continuing care & levels of treatment for heroin addiction
Prior to the completion of treatment, all clients will participate in a one-week experience where they will engage in solo adventures to help them prepare for the future. Once this time had ended, clients will return to base where they will work on aftercare planning, develop a relapse prevention plan, and create a support system that will sustain the progress they made. We understand that recovery is a lifelong process that extends beyond a client’s time in rehab at our treatment center, which is why we work closely with each client, their families, and referral sources to create a detailed discharge and aftercare plan.
Four Circles offers a Sober Living Transition Program for adult males, ages 18 to 28, who are in the process of transitioning from a primary substance abuse treatment program into independent living. This program is at least 14 days in length and provides clients with a number of therapeutic methods, including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and medication management. Additionally, adventure-based trips are taken every weekend.
Additionally, Four Circles offers a 28-day Relapse Prevention Program specifically for individuals who are in transitional living or who have completed a primary treatment program and are in need of this additional level of care. It also serves as a beneficial program for those who have relapsed while in step-down care.
Whatever your heroin abuse concerns may be, the highly qualified, compassionate staff at Four Circles can help you overcome that addiction and be able to lay the foundation for a life of sobriety. If you are struggling with a heroin abuse problem, Four Circles Recovery Center is your choice for heroin addiction treatment when you or your loved one asks the question: what is the best rehab near me?
