Understanding the need for drug & alcohol detox
Abusing alcohol and/or other drugs is widely known to damage lives. If you’re grappling with a substance abuse problem, then you’re probably familiar with this concept and are aware of how your addiction has altered the course of your life in a negative way. What’s important for you to know is that your life doesn’t have to remain on this destructive path. You have life-saving options available to you.
Depending on the substance that you’re addicted to, the adversity that this sort of issue has brought to your life can be vast and vary from another person. Abusing certain substances, such as alcohol, opiates, and meth, may cause you to become dependent, which can make it extremely difficult to end this behavior without professional help.
If this is the case for you and you’ve found it all but impossible to end your addiction without withdrawal symptoms triggering you back to abusing substances, completing detox before participating in comprehensive addiction treatment may be the best option for you and your future.
What to expect with drug & alcohol withdrawal symptoms
Experiencing withdrawal can be an especially disconcerting experience that can prevent you from becoming sober. When your drug of choice begins to leave your system, your body must learn to readjust to functioning without it. If you’ve been abusing alcohol or another addictive substance, this period of readjustment may be painful and possibly even life-threatening.
Among the many types of symptoms that can occur during withdrawal, strong drug cravings, anxiety, depression, appetite changes, sleep disturbances, muscle and/or bone pain, stomachaches, sweating, headaches, irritability, and cardiovascular problems are some of the most common.
When these symptoms emerge, you may resort to substance abuse in order to alleviate your psychological and physical strife. This relapse can certainly compromise your ability to refrain from substance abuse. Oftentimes, stopping substance abuse, experiencing withdrawal, and returning to substance use is a cyclical pattern that remains constant until a person hits rock bottom.
However, you can break free from this pattern.
Detoxification treatment through Four Circles Recovery Center
Detoxification, which is also known as detox, is a type of treatment that guides you through withdrawal safely and in a manner that significantly reduces your risk of relapse. At Four Circles Recovery Center, we understand the great value of detox for individuals who have been able to rid their bodies of substances of abuse, and we work diligently to ensure that any person who can benefit from this level of care has the opportunity to complete detox before starting treatment with us.
Four Circles is not a medical facility; however, we coordinate with several detox programs in our area. If our admissions assessment indicates that you need detox, we will confirm your acceptance at one of these detox centers, provide transportation to the detox center, and stay with you until you have been admitted. We will remain in contact with the detox center throughout your time in our care, and when you have completed the program, we will transport you back to Four Circles so that you can seamlessly transition into our comprehensive programming.
During your time in the detox program to which we refer you, you will work with experienced and compassionate staff members who will do all that they can to ensure your safety and encourage your successful progression toward the next step in your recovery journey.
While you are in detox, you may be prescribed certain non-addictive medications to alleviate any discomfort, and you’ll be provided with other forms of invaluable support. When you complete detox, you will be ready to participate in the various therapeutic services that will be included in your recovery experience at Four Circles.
