Men and women often experience drug and alcohol addiction with different biological responses, triggers, and co-occurring issues. As a result, for some people treatment is most successful in gender-specific groups. At Four Circles, we offer a women-only track designed to empower young women who prefer to address their issues with the support of other women.
Our women-only track provides the same services and supports as our mixed-gender and men-only programs, but places an added emphasis on self-esteem, body image, healthy relationships, and the development of positive social behaviors. Our women’s groups also address eating disorders, depression, self-care, and trauma. Four times a week, female therapists who specialize in women’s issues provide therapeutic and educational sessions in both one-on-one and small- group formats. Women also have the opportunity to attend gender-specific 12-step meetings.
The women-only track also incorporates wilderness therapy, with groups going out on expeditions for periods of two to seven days at a time, and then returning to base camp to shower, discuss their experiences, and prepare for the next stage of treatment. While our men’s groups spend at least half of their time in the wilderness for periods up to two weeks, women’s groups venture out roughly 40 percent of the time.
Four Circles’ women-only track provides a unique setting for young women to begin exploring who they are physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. All-female support groups provide a compassionate, non-confrontational, and nonjudgmental environment for women to share their stories, fears, struggles, and life lessons with other women who can sympathize and relate. This serves as an ideal environment for young women to challenge their beliefs and behaviors in order to grow into the women they want to be.
