I love this work because it allows me to combine my love for the magic and beauty of the natural world with my passion for the magic and beauty of the human spirit. I have devoted myself to this work because I am honored enough to work with and witness people aspiring to grow and change and I can not imagine a more perfect job.
Melanie Weis, PhD, LPC, NCC
Program Manager
As the manager of the base component of Four Circles, I provide an additional clinical dimension to Four Circles Recovery Center. Along with a team of therapists and highly skilled staff, I ensure that clients are provided a clinically-based experience. In addition to planning daily activities in conjunction with clients' primary therapists and the clinical team at Four Circles, I meet with clients individually and facilitate therapy groups.
I am passionate about my work because I have witnessed the transformative power of therapeutic interventions. I feel privileged to meet with individuals as they confront themselves and begin the journey of becoming who they want to be. My love for this field guided me to obtain my doctorate in counselor education with a concentration in multicultural counseling. I am now fortunate to work with clients in a program that combines residential treatment and wilderness therapy.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina and a National Certified Counselor. My professional experience has been with children, adolescents and adults, working with issues of grief and loss, domestic violence, addictions, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, and depression. I bring that experience to my current work with clients who must process the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral issues that contribute to substance use. Whether on the ropes course, in an individual session, or in a therapy group, I meet individuals where they are as they grow into their new way of being in the world.
I approach counseling from a person-centered and existential framework, utilizing Gestalt and Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques. Within that perspective, I believe in an individual's ability to create meaning in his or her life through a process of self-acceptance. While my focus is on the current functioning of individuals, I understand people through a developmental lens that allows me to view how their current way of being in the world is impacted by their past. I believe that as people attain a greater awareness of themselves and their interaction with the world, they will be better able to engage the world in ways that are congruent and meaningful to them.

1. I love my job because it oftentimes doesn't feel like work. I also love the backdrop of nature as it makes a beautiful
2. Helping others has always come naturally for me, and I often find it to be a reciprocal exchange; most days I am energized by the work that I do. I am happy to hold the flashlight when others are unable, and point it in a healthy direction.
