SUMMARY
An entry level Recovery Guide assists higher level Recovery Guides and Therapists to ensure safety and client supervision. Assists in teaching and facilitating substance abuse recovery with clients utilizing an integration of the 12-step process, a bio-psycho-social approach, the wilderness, experiential learning, and other clinical applications. Assists in providing direct care and teaching clients responsible living, wilderness skills, LNT principles, and primitive skills. Assists facilitation of Adventure Programming and Adventure-based Counseling (i.e. – Ropes Course, Group Initiatives). ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitates substance abuse recovery by guiding clients through 12-step meetings, daily recovery plans, group sessions, and experiential activities.
Assists with supervision, provides safety guidance, and determines whereabouts of clients.
Will be responsible for monitoring day-to-day health and safety concerns such as: physical health, hygiene and food intake.
Will utilize and teach approved curriculum.
Participates in delivering valuable experiences for growth and development for clients.
Will monitor and record client growth and development on a daily basis.
Assists with demonstrating and teaching necessary skills for successful participation in the program such as primitive living skills, use of field equipment/gear, effective communication skills, and encouraging self-discovery/self-awareness.
Will report efforts in weekly meetings with supervisors, clinicians, and other applicable staff.
Communicates client progress with members of treatment team.
REQUIREMENTS
Education- Must meet the minimum age (21 years of age). High School Diploma or GED required. Experience in adventure/wilderness programs helpful. Personal and/or professional substance abuse recovery experience a plus.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations- First Aid, and CPR required and other acceptable certification such as Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B), Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience- Will require familiarity with relevant regulations. Must be patient, innovative, a team player, detail oriented, able to handle multiple tasks, and be calm and competent in stressful/crisis situations and must maintain appropriate example to clients in all areas of personal conduct and appearance.
Physical Requirements- Carrying up to 60 pounds, hiking up to 10 miles, reaching and bending. Being able to withstand being outdoors for an extended time (i.e. – cold/hot weather, rain, snow, insects).
Decision Making Responsibilities- Exercises best judgment regarding the immediate physical health, safety, and welfare of clients and needs ability to judge when situations require immediate attention from a more senior level staff member.
