Whitewater rafting is one of the most exhilarating outdoor activities, and it not only challenges our clients to work together as a team, but to also helps build their self-esteem as they journey down river.
The Nantahala River, one of the country’s most popular and oldest rivers, consists of miles of thrilling rapids that flow through the Nantahala National Forest in western North Carolina. While navigating these ever-changing rapids, clients can sharpen their teamwork skills through the use of verbal communication, patience and listening techniques that help them get from Point A to Point B safely. In addition, clients can also use whitewater rafting as a stress release for the underlying issues that may be related to their substance abuse and/or mental health issues, as well as a source for a well-overdue confidence boost.
By incorporating whitewater rafting into our program at Four Circles, we are providing our clients with a therapeutic outlet that not only produces numerous benefits, but also keeps clients actively and willingly engaged in their overall recovery.
